Comments: I spent a very enjoyable weekend course with Joe. He is an amazing teacher. Not only patient, skilled and experienced as one might imagine with such a top class coach but also a true gentleman. Jean was a charming hostess and I learnt a great amount in such short period of time. From virtual beginner to committed archer in two days. Not bad. I will be back for another coaching session. I cannot recommend Robins Reach Archery highly enough. Thank you.

Comments: A great way to start out with archery. A really nice environment was created by Joe and Jean. They were kind and approachable, and gave us a good cuppa with biscuits. Joe clearly knows this sport as he's had experience with different types of archery. We walked away keen to do more. Thanks for teaching us, Joe. We're likely to return

Comments: Joe is an outstanding teacher and has a great deal of patience. This was one of the most pleasant learning experiences I have ever experienced . My teacher was also an excellent historian and I learned a lot. I was made to feel part of the family rather than just a guest and the room was excellent. Archers at every level would find great pleasure in learning from Joe and his charming wife runs a lovely and comfortable home .Thank you

Comments: Thank you very much for a very enjoyable afternoon. Extremely well run, tuition was excellent. There were 12 of us including 2 children. Joe and Jean managed to keep their eye on everyone ensuring they were doing it correctly. We all enjoyed the session and if we decide to do archery again will not hesitate in returning.

Comments: Last week 6 of us had a brilliant 2 hour party "Have a Go" session with Joe and his lovely wife Jean at Robins Reach Archery and wow!! what a session it was, worth every penny at only £21.00each. I would certainly check Joe's packages out before booking elsewhere + his coaching is absolutely top notch, the stuff he doesn't know about coaching you isn't worth writing down. The session started with loads of coached coached practice go's then onto a I think, if I recall was a 2 dozen arrow competition, after that whilst Jean tots up the scores we all had a go at popping balloons, brilliant fun and what a laugh it is. To finalize we then have medals and chocolate prizes given to the top 3... Then off down to the local pub for a pint and a post mortem on over the core sheets... Robins Reach Archery, in my book, come highly recommended. Jack ( Braintree)

Comments: Hi Joe and Jean Many thanks for your email… and more importantly for a brilliant event and evening! Everyone has voiced how much they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and want to do it again!!! It was great how it brought out the healthy competition between us as we were actually made up from 2 different teams IT and Finance; so it definitely made for a good team bonding session. Some really competitive people have actually been recalculating the scores today to make sure they haven’t been cheated out of any points haha We’re very glad Anna won too, one for the girls and one for IT!!!! ? Yourself and Jean brought so much to the party too, it wouldn’t have been the same if anyone else had been running the event ? Many thanks once again for everything. Kind regards Rozita. Greenvale Potatoes. Peterborough. Cambs. P.S. maybe we will make this an annual event!!!

Comments: Wow, I just finished four days (8hrs) of one to one training with Joe. I started from ground zero with Joe and he was amazing. We worked through all the steps of how to shoot a bow in logical progressive steps and I finished my fourth and final day with Joe today (Nov 12th 2015) as a confident and competent beginner. Joe is a truly professional coach and teacher, so so knowledgeable about all aspects of archery and I thoroughly enjoyed the course. Joe is also such a nice guy and a pleasure to learn from. Can't thank you enough Joe, see you on the podium and the next Olympics! Will be back for some more coaching for sure. Peter Robinson

Comments: Wow! Robins Reach Archery what a find. I've been shooting for a year now and have become totally confused with, albeit they mean well, what our club coaches and members are telling me where I'm going wrong so I decided to look for some independent 1:1 coaching. Having read RRA reviews I decided to give them a try and I'm so pleased I did, Joe the owner and coach was absolutely brilliant. I had 4 hrs of 1:1 coaching with him and I have to say it was worth every penny. Joe laser set my bow and tuned it. Coaching, he observed and prioritised my weak points and sent me, by email, a report on his observations of the points to work on and how to correct my weak points. Proof of the pudding, my PB Portsmouth was 469 and within 2 weeks of seeing Joe I have now managed to achieve the magic number of 503. If you are looking for some good positive 1:1 coaching then, with out doubt, I highly recommend Robins Reach Archery

Comments: Robins Reach was the perfect answer to my problem of being unable to commit to regular weekly beginners course lessons - a 3 day residential course. Joe is a very experienced coach who provides execellent tuition in a calm, unhurried manner with patience and good humour. Robins Reach is a lovely, quiet spot on the outskirts of the village of Little Staughton and combines archery tuition with very comfortable B&B accommodation in the same location so is very convenient. Jean's breakfasts are delicious. Thank you very much and I will be returning again one day soon.

Comments: Just returned from staying here for one night whilst attending a beginners archery course. Had a lovely stay, the room was lovely, clean and comfortable, and had the use of a kitchen to make my own coffee as I needed as well. Had a huge breakfast and was stuffed for hours afterwards. The Archery course ran by Joe - was fantastic, informative and fun, in a beautiful setting - with great views. Would certainly stay here again, felt very relaxed - just like having a mini holiday.

Comments: I attended a beginners archery course in March 2014 involving 8 hours of tuition split over 2 days. I was given expert one-on-one support, and honestly felt nothing could have been done better. As a wheelchair user looking to take up the sport, I needed to complete a course to join a club, but found it hard to get venues and attitudes to suit my requirements elsewhere. With Robins Reach, there was never any question of whether it would be possible - everything was done to make sure that I got the same level of teaching and input as a standing archer would, plus some specific advice for the chair on top. I had such fun, learning an awful lot in a very short space of time, but it was never too fast, with plenty of practical shooting to be able to rehearse the techniques I was being taught. The course was very thorough, covering far more than other courses advertise, but it was always taken at my pace, with lots of opportunity to ask questions if necessary. I was extremely impressed with everything, and I can not recommend Robins Reach highly enough.

Comments: I had not long finished a beginner’s course in Archery where I live, and found that I preferred the Longbow, rather than a Recurve bow. I purchased a Longbow soon after and wanted to get use to using my Longbow and arrows before joining a club. Another Archer that I had met recommended Joe at Robins Reach for some coaching sessions and so after contacting Joe, I arranged to do a two hour one-to-one coaching session with him. Joe was professional and friendly throughout the coaching session, and very informative in answering the many questions that I had. I thoroughly enjoyed the session and found it incredibly productive in rectifying any faults that I may have had and was given the areas to focus on for the future. My confidence has been built up in being a Longbow Archer and I am really looking forward to joining a club and using my bow once again. Thank you Jean for the tea and biscuits.

Comments: We chose Robin's Reach from an internet search when looking for 'archery holidays'. It was a perfect find for us. We wanted to get back to shooting after a year or more away from the sport. Joe very quickly spotted the main points to focus on for each of us and his eight hours coaching transformed us from rusty and hesitant to keen and competent!! The intensive archery combined with Jean's orderly and welcoming B&B made this a wonderful weekend away for us.

Comments: As a family of all ages we enjoyed a fantasic taster session in April. Some of us enjoyed it so much we decided to book for the 8 hour Beginners Course over the summer holidays spreading it over 4 afternoons. Yesterday was the last day and today we are desperately missing it. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Joe was a fantastic coach, clearly informative, kind and very helpful. His wife Jean, a thoughtful hostess keeping us going with cold drinks and coffee's. Joe has just e-mailed us our equipment guidelines. So we'll be off to our local suppliers asap. I would highly recommend anyone of any age interested in archery to book with Robins Reach. Thank you Joe and Jean for a lovely week!

Comments: Excellent and professional coaching with a great venue and facilities. We did a beginners archery course as a family and we all had a great time learning a lot of new skills and techniques. It was ideal for us because of the flexibility of the course times and dates to fit in with our busy schedule. Highly recommended.

Comments: I'm really glad I booked a one-to-one beginners archery course at Robins Reach - I've been meaning to have another go at archery ever since I had a brief encounter with this sport at an activity centre years back on a family holiday – you know the sort of thing I mean; you get an hour session with about two instructors to twenty people. Suffice to say, the residential course Joe and Jean run far, far surpassed any archery tuition I’d previously experienced: over eight hours, nicely spaced over two days, I had a brilliant time learning the basics of archery and with Joe’s excellent coaching found my technique rapidly improving. I was very satisfied with the progress I made and am now confident enough to approach my local club, since as part of the course, as well as gaining experience in how to correctly operate a recurve bow, I've also learned the key aspects of etiquette, as well as how to actually set a bow up. I also left Robins Reach with the key measurements, unique to me, required to go out and buy my own bow and arrows, which I very much look forward to doing. Brilliant value for money and fantastic, tailored coaching – thanks again to Joe and Jean for the great course and for making me feel so welcome while I stayed in their lovely bed and breakfast.

Comments: We spent a most wonderful three days at Robins Reach and the time spent with Joe working on our archery skills has made all the difference for both of us! Starting the day off with Jean's amazing breakfast, followed by several hours of most rewarding archery coaching time with Joe, ending with a lovely dinner at the village of St Neots - this was a truly perfect break away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Joe, Jean, we wanted to thank you both again for your amazing hospitality - we will definitely be back in the future! :-)

Comments: My nine year old daughter and I booked with Robin's Reach for a weekend of archery tuition. We enjoyed Joe McDonald and his wife's hospitality at their bed-and-breakfast, and benefited immensely from Joe's more than two decades of archery experience. He is patient and immensely knowledgeable, and effortlessly alternated his coaching style between the two of us, ensuring that we got the maximum benefit from our time with him. We used our own equipment, but where that was lacking, Joe provided alternative gear. He also assisted us in fine-tuning our kit, made appropriate upgrade suggestions, and advised us on a medium and long-term strategy for further progression. His enthusiasm for the sport was contagious and we came away from the weekend an order of magnitude more proficient than we had arrived and very keen to continue pursuing the sport. I cannot recommend Joe highly enough and will definitely be making use of his services again. William van Niekerk, MB ChB MSc MRCS MCMI FRCS RAF.

Comments: I attended Robin's Reach Archery with a view to taking the sport up as a hobby, receiving an excellent and comprehensive introduction. Joe instructed me throughout the 8 hour course, his experience and knowledge coupled with a calm, intelligent method of teaching allowing me to progress huge amounts in the time spent. I would highly recommend Joe and Robin's Reach Archery.

Comments: Hi Joe and Jean Just to say thanks for our beginners course with you last month. We both really enjoyed it. I went for an assessment with Castle Bowmen the following week and the coach said 'you clearly know what you're doing' which is testament to your teaching Joe ,so many thanks for that, hopefully Diane will be having her assessment on Sunday I have now joined the club and am now starting to hit decent groups shooting barebow on the Portsmouth targets at 18m indoors. Many thanks again for your hospitality and great introduction to this wonderful sport. Best wishes Adrian and Diane. .

Comments: Having always had the desire to learn the Art of Archery I was glad to find a coach so close to home. With guidance from Joe I found that my preference for the traditional Longbow could be catered for by what can only be described as expert one-to-one tuition and all of that tuition geared to the Longbow. With Joe's masterful tuition and eight hours of very enjoyable and fully focused effort I am overjoyed to say I can now draw and loose with far greater accuracy than I ever thought I might and am now quite capable of hitting gold at 45 yards. Robins Reach Archery is without any doubt, the best value for time and money I have ever spent. Longbow Archery is now my passion too. Thanks Joe, it was a real pleasure, see you on the field soon. Mike.

Comments: We just finished the two day archery beginners course and thought it was brilliant. The course was over and above what we were expecting and learnt so much in two days. Joe's style of training and humour together with some history of archery and his years of experience made the course very enjoyable and motivated us to want to progress. The accommodation and hospitality was also excellent with a big thank you to Jean for the supply of coffee/tea and biscuits through the day and the hearty breakfast. We would highly recommend any of Joe's courses whether for beginners or toxophilite :).

Comments: I have just returned from a beginners Archery course taught by Joe at Robins Reach Archery- and stayed overnight at the Robins Reach B&B. I had a great time. The coaching was fantastic, not only did he teach me to shoot, but also to understand how to set up my bow and make adjustments to improve my aim and target hitting abilities. Joe and his wife are such lovely people and made me feel very welcome, and created a comfortable environment so you can learn at your own pace. I will certainly return for coaching again in the future and would recommend Robins Reach Archery.

Name: Anthony Hall
Comments: I have recently returned from the 8 hour residential course and whilst endorsing everything previously said,I would like to add that,as a physically disabled person archery is something which anyone can partake. I do walk but have no independent standing balance. I was seated throughout, which made no difference to the outcome. Joe was obviously au fait with this and it made for an enjoyable experience. I am now looking to join a club here on Merseyside, once the attraction of the Olympics blows over. Everywhere is fully booked! Thank you,Joe for your help and guidance.

Comments: Our group of would-be archers was aged 6 to 50+ and everyone had a thoroughly good time. One unexpected bonus was when our little grandson aged 3 was allowed to 'shoot' a few arrows (under full supervision) when the rest of the party had finished, it made his day! Many thanks-would definitely recommend Robins Reach.

Comments: My wife and I were taught a beginners archery course at Robins Reach Archery in Little Staughton. Joe makes the lessons very enjoyable whilst packing in a lot of learning. It is obvious that he is very experienced and patiently coaches you through the basics and beyond. His broad knowledge and enthusiasm for archery made our lessons a real joy and a highlight of the week. I thoroughly recommend Robins Reach Archery.

Name: Janine Travers
Comments: After completing a beginners course with our club we decided to contact Joe for some 'one to one' training and equipment advice. Not only did we have a fantastic time in amazing surroundings, we were able to really expand on the knowledge we had already gained. Joe was also able to provide an impartial and knowledgeable view on equipment - which saved us time and of course money. We can't wait to get a few months of shooting under our belts before we head backup for some more training. The session was really tailored to our needs and a worth while endeavor for all levels. And you can't beat Jean's refreshments!

Name: Yvonne Murphy
Comments: This is an excellent course for beginners to archery. The teaching was comprehensive and straightforward, and taught with a great sense of humour and sensitivity. The introduction to the history of archery made it most interesting. It was exciting to see skills develop over the two days and once learned, with the help of the handouts, these skills will be easy to remember. It opened a new world for us and we hope to continue in a local club.

Comments: Last friday night 18 of us from Wootton Methodist Church enjoyed a first class archery evening run by Joe and Jean form Robins Reach Archery. The service offered was first class, from initial inquiry through planning and the final evening its self. Joe fully understood the difficulties in organising such an event and was very understanding and helpful through all our changes. On the night they ran the event seamlessly with excellent coaching and encouragement. Every one was hitting the target and most the gold. We will definitely be organising an other event with Robins Reach in the future. Gary Chester. Wootton Methodist Church.

Comments: I have just finished an 8 hour long beginner's course at Robin's Reach, spaced out over 3 days. Joe was a brilliant coach, and it was really satisfying to be hitting the "golds" by the end of the course. I had only tried archery on a couple of occasions previously, but this one-on-one course was exactly what I needed to give me the impetus to now take up archery seriously. Top marks to Joe, (and also a nod to his lovely wife for the delicious tea and biscuits!).

Comments: Thanks to Joe my husband now thinks he is Robin Hood! What a great way to celebrate his birthday. With two hours of one on one training my husband finished the morning with six arrows in the gold. Myself, sister in law and son enjoyed the time in a lovely English garden in the sun shine. Morning tea was a treat. Great value. I would do it again and recommend it to family and friends.

Comments: I have just finished an 8hr beginner course with Robins Reach and I am so pleased with the result. Joe is an excellent coach, explaining processes, safety and technology clearly and tailoring his coaching to fit the student in a comprehensive manner. Comments: First of all, I had an amazing two days of beginner’s archery course at Robins Reach Archery. Joe’s brilliantly teaching technique is very friendly, well structured, and I do feel the inner peace while practising. The most importantly is that he knows what exactly your problems are even before you notice them. Comments: Me and a friend recently completed the 8 hour beginners course offered by Joe over two days felt I really learnt a lot and progressed fast in what seemed like no time at all. Joe is a great teacher, being patient as you get a grip of the basics, giving continual encouragement and guidance, and also quick to take things up a gear to keep you progressing. Quite a lot of material is covered in this short course, and I now feel I have had a very thorough introduction to archery and the various styles of the recurve bow. I would recommend Joe's high standard of one-two-one tuition greatly to anyone who is interested in archery. Joe has a real passion for what he does, and is very friendly and accommodating. Thanks Joe!

Comments: Myself and my son visited Joe to help improve the basic skills that we have learned at a local archery club. What we both like about Joe is that he always explains why he is asking you to change something about your technique. His observation skills are excellent and he manages to spot the smallest mistake and correct it. After the session my son said to me that he does not feel under any pressure with Joe and he hopes to have some more coaching sessions soon. Great coaching in a fun and friendly environment, thanks Joe.

Comments: We visited Robins Reach yesterday for a 'have a go' event, a couple of hours drive to get there but it was absolutely worth the trip. Field Captain, Joe, made the day both informative and great fun. Not one of our party of 6 came away without wanting to come back for another go. Thanks very much and hope to see you again soon!

Comments: Joe came to visit our Brownie pack holiday and the girls absolutely loved the archery. Not only was the experience brilliant value for money, he was so good with all of the girls with each one leaving the session feeling that she'd really accomplished her very best. He was friendly and the girls loved the personal touches he brought, such as bringing medals for the winners of the archery competition. I would thoroughly recommend anyone considering archery to try a session with Joe or do a beginner's course.

Joe's instruction was so clear and thorough that we all noticeably improved over the session and came away with a great sense of achievement. They really enjoyed it; Joe was a wonderful teacher, very patient and clear, very encouraging and brilliant at dealing with the children and their different temperaments, and extremely knowledgeable. Jean was very kind and welcoming and produced some welcome refreshments! Deliciously relaxing and peaceful for me sitting in the sunshine watching and listening to twang thud peep. Thoroughly recommended.

Comments: Clare bought me probably the best Christmas present EVER when she arranged our Archery beginners course and overnight stay at Robins Reach. From start to finish, we had a fantastic time. We were made very welcome, looked after very well in the relaxing surroundings. Our Archery lessons were, informative, well thought out and above all FUN ! We both passed our course and both want to go on to join a local club. Thanks Joe and Jean for a great time. We couldn't recommend the experience highly enough.

Comments: We had a one-and-a-half hour archery party in our garden for our 10 year old's birthday. Everything went so smoothly. Joe and Jean had just the right approach with a group of 10 year old boys (all beginners) - relaxed whilst being "in charge" at the same time. The boys began to pick up the technique well, whilst having great fun too. Thank you so much Joe and Jean. I can thoroughly recommend archery with Joe for a children's party with a difference!

Comments: Big thank you's to Joe and Jean for making our two hour session such great fun! All six of us had the best time ever! The tuition was spot on, with all of us beginners, making massive progress throughout the lesson. Both Joe and Jean were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. As well as the wannabe Robin Hoods, we also had one toddler and a baby with us, but as the session was tailored to meet our needs this did not prove a problem. Thank you for making the day so special!

Comments: Having harboured a dream of learning archery for over ten years, I finally plucked up courage and booked the 8hr beginner's course over 2 days with Joe. What a choice!! Joe is utterly professional, I felt extremly comfortable with someone who is clearly an expert tutor, and with his encouraging , supportive and patient approach, I was soon shooting far better than I ever imagined possible. Joe has a disarming personality and you are immediately at ease, in spite of being in a completely new arena. I had a fantastic two days and I would highly recommend it. The location was wonderful, a perfect setting and excellent hospitality from Jean (great tea and homemade soup !). Thank you for being so inspirational Joe, I will definitely be back.

Comments: I'm a wheelchair user with no use of my fingers and I thought archery as a hobby was out of the question, until I accompanied my friend to a 2 hour session with Joe and I've got to say he's a true gentleman and a great teacher. We went back to take the beginners course and learnt so much from Joe's years of experience, we also found his enthusiasm very infectious. I can't wait to join a club now and take part in a hobby where I'm at a level pegging with everyone else. I highly recommend going to see Joe if you're looking for a beginning in archery

Name: Izzy C
Comments: The thoroughly enjoyable lessons are set in the peaceful countryside with a very knowledgeable and accomplished teacher! Joe is full of enthusiasm and encouragement and gets you shooting competently very quickly indeed! I feel very proud now I've completed the beginnner's course which is worth every penny (and if you're really lucky, you might get Jaffa cakes too)! You should set up a page on Facebook, so I can recommend you to all of my friends!

Comments: Thank you for lovely birthday present for my mum. We all had a lovely time in pleasant surroundings.

Comments: With over 20 years of involvment in the martial arts I know how difficult it is to find a teacher who can inspire and bring the best out of their student. Joe's relaxed approach, complete lack of self importance, his years of experience, his ability to make learning enjoyable and fun makes you realise how special his teaching really is. Add to this Jean's kindness, quiet support and you have the perfect match... a bit of yang and a bit of yin makes for a great tai chi!

Comments: Thank you Joe for your fantastic tuition. It was 2 hours well spent and I will be coming back to complete the 8 hour beginners course. You couldn't ask for a better teacher or setting! Very enjoyable and highly recommended!

Comments: I enjoyed my 2hr coaching session so much that I now want to continue training and obtain my GNAS certificate which will enable me to gain access to my local club. Joe installs so much confidence into you, he is an excellent teacher! Thank you very much Joe, I look forward to my next lesson!

Comments: Joe and Jean, what can I say? 26 children aged between 4 and 11 years of age with only 3 of the older children having held a bow before; without exception, everyone enjoyed your visit and we would love to invite you back again. The response you had when you said goodbye said it all really! :-) Thank you for a really enjoyable morning!

Comments: My wife bought a 2 hour session for my birthday. We both loved it and continued to do the beginner course. Joe is an excellent teacher and now my wife and I have a great hobby... and an annual inter-family Gray Cup to compete for!! Thanks Joe (and Jean for tea and biscuits on a bl**dy cold day). See you at St.Neots Bowmen! GnK

Comments: I have always loved archery but never found a club. Now I have found Joe he has really got me good at archery and I enjoyed every minute of it, I sometimes wish it was a 16 hour course not 8, Joe is a lovely teacher and everyone who likes archery should visit him.

Name: Mark Sinclair
Comments: Wanting to Join a local archery club but finding all the beginners courses fully booked for months to come, I searched the internet for a solution. I was lucky enough to find Joe. He has such a passion for Archery and in turn teaching, that it was a pleasure to be his student for 2 days. I learnt so much more than I thought was involved in archery and look forward to implementing my new found skills at a local club. I think everyone should visit Joe at some point as I'm sure he could make a better Bowman out of even the most experienced person. Thank you very much and I look forward to coming back for a refresher course when I get my new bow.

Comments: We did the 8-hour beginner's course over two successive days and emerged tired but triumphant. If you've ever considered taking up archery we recommend that you go and spend a few hours with Joe. You will learn more than you think, and shoot better than you imagined you could.

Comments: Excellent ! We booked only 4 hours thinking we would have had enough but it was clearly a mistake: it was so enjoyable and well coached that we can't wait to go back to complete the 8 hours initial course.
